Gowbarrow from Aira Force - Lake District

Gowbarrow Fell from Aira Force is of our favourite places to visit. If you are not looking for a huge challenge then you can explore Aira Force, which has facilities such as toilets, a car park, cafe and gift shop. For a longer walk with stunning views, take the route to Gowbarrow Fell - and bag a Wainwright in the process!

Starting at National Trust car park, we followed the route through the waterfalls and walked upstream until reaching the beginning of the steepish climb to Gowbarrow Summit. It's a lovely place to bring your dogs and we saw lots of dogs enjoying a paddle in the stream, however with livestock in places they do need to be kept on a lead.

After reaching the summit of Gowbarrow we continued on the circular route which brings you to a path with stunning views over Ullswater. There are a few rocky sections which some dogs may struggle with and the path is narrow at times with steep drops.

As we continued on the route, the sun started to set over the mountains with golden rays coming through the clouds. As we turned the corner, we bumped into the gorgeous Swift and her owners who run Canicross events at Lakeland Paws.

Whether you decide to do the full route or just stay around Aria Force, this is one of our favourite places to visit for a day out with a dog. But as expected in the North, be prepared for all weathers and lots of mud, so towels and a MudDaddy could come in handy for giving your dog a quick wash down before jumping back in the car!
